Termites in Flight

Those humid November, December nights when we get those afternoon thunderstorms that only last an hour or so but make it really muggy is when termites and many species of ants take to flight. To the untrained eye it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between the two but there is an easy way to tell the difference, both have two sets of wings but termite wings are exactly the same length whereas ant wings have one large set at the front and a smaller set at the back much like a dragon fly. 99.9% of the termites are dead within 24 hours but it is the 1% that can make a new nest. If termites land on your property it may be worthwhile checking nearby trees for the small tell tale slit they leave when they depart the tree or call Pest Free Solution of course, your termite professionals.
